Has anyone been able to use a Sparc monitor on their Mac? I'm trying,
using an adapter I bought, but have yet to get any type of picture on
the monitor. I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing and would
appreciate tips from anyone who has managed to get this combination to
work.

Thanks,
-Kurt

Which monitor and which Mac? Makes a difference...

We have a half-dozen Macs in a lab at work, two G4/500s (well, now
1GHz) each running a pair of 21" Sun monitors, a B&W G4/500 (another
upgrade) running two 21" Sun displays, and an 8500/350 (G4) with an
older Sun 19" CRT. All of them have been plug and play, the 8500
has a Mac-to-VGA adapter, then, like all the rest, connecting to
the Sun 13W3 connector through a VGA-to-13W3 Sun adapter.

If you could borrow another adapter, you might be able to tell
whether or not your adapter might be defective.

Both Sparc monitors are 17", one dating to 1996, the other to 1999.
They're being connected to a PowerMac G4/867 "QuickSilver" via a
DB13W3 Female to HD15 Male adapter. I set the DIP switches on the
adapter to 1-0-1 which translates to 1024x768 @ 74Hz. I chose this
setting because 1024x768 was the only resolution listed that seemed
standard.

Thanks for any ideas,
-Kurt

Not all Sun monitors are multisync. The older ones are
fixed-frequency at 1152x870 and do not transmit plug-n-play info.

Getting MacOS to produce the correct resolution shouldn't be hard.
Getting it to recognize the monitor's capabilities at boot time,
however may be.
