I am looking for an e-mail vendor that provides a secure login (I don't
care about the content, I use GPG for content) to their e-mail service
that will work with the Apple e-mail client.

I use earthlink.net today, but they seem to use plain POP, which has
both the account and password transmitted in clear text. I'd like to
use e-mail on a public Wi-Fi network or on my iPhone, but I am
concerned about account and password security.

Of course, I may be totally confused. Some of my research shows
messages about disabling APOP and getting around TLS errors when
connecting to older mail servers.

Thanks,

AFAIK Earthlink uses a secure connection for e-mail.
