It's been a feature at least since Safari 3, and if I come across a Mac
still using an earlier version I'll let you know if it goes back even
further.

Safari's status bar has reflected the effects of modifier keys for as
long as I remember using Safari. |

You mean, for example, that it changes from "Go to http://whatever.com"
to "Open http://whatever.com in a new window" when I press the Command
key, right? That's what I'm talking about.

It's done that for a very long time. It did it in Safari 3, and I
believe it did it in 2 as well.

I think we've beaten this one to death.
On the other hand, there is a return to the old in SL Safari. They've
brought back the progress bar on the file icon during a download.
