Does anyone know of a way to remove neck and lcd panel from the original
iMac LCD?
I have a spare one and want to use this machine a my state-of-the-art
multi-media center, connected to my big screen LCD TV and stereo,
controlled through VNC and wireless trackball. In order to put the mac
near the other equipment, I need to remove the lcd panel and neck. So,
anyone done this before and want to share comments? Would it be possible
to re-use the removed lcd screen for other purposes?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Ernie

The Apple internal technical manual for these machines is floating around
the Web somewhere. I have read it, but I don't think I still have a copy.
However, I do remember that to remove the neck you have to very nearly
dismantle the whole machine - start by taking the bottom off, and keep
removing things from inside the dome. Logic board, power supply, bluetooth
module, optical drive, hard drive. Then you can get at the bolts on the
inside of the top of the dome that hold the neck on. It's not a simple job!
