It's amazing how strange rumors get spread around. I guess some jokers just
want to see how gullible others are.
In 1997 Microsoft announced that all versions of Office from then on will
have the same file format. So far that is still the case.
There were rumors that the next version of Office for Windows will not have
the same file format, but I've not seen any evidence one way or the other on
that one.
Until Microsoft says otherwise I think it's safe to assume that Office files
beginning with Office 97 will work in all future versions including Office
2004.
