My brother-in-law and I were trying at Thanksgiving to replace the
internal battery in my old-style iMac (700 MHz PowerPC G3 Machine ID
406), and we had a great deal of trouble getting the case open. We
turned it over and undid a mess of screws, but the case didn't seem to
want to come off. It lifted a little, but something was still holding
it on, and we didn't want to force it.
Is there a trick or a special tool we need? My b-i-l is an electrical
engineer and quite capable of changing the battery (which we could see
but not reach) if only we could get the stupid case off!
Does anyone have any suggestions? He'll be back here at Christmas, and
we'll want to give it another whack if we can get any clues.
Thanks!

These 2 URLs might be helpful:
<http://www.macworld.com/2002/10/secrets/mac911/> (look under "Battery
Swap")
<http://www.macworld.com/2001/10/bc/howtoimac/> (instructions on
"cracking" iMac cases--separate sets of info for tray-loading and
slot-loading models)
[No, I haven't personally tried this on my iMac.]

It's a scarey thing to do... it'll make a horrible 'crack' noise when
you get it.
Good Luck!

No, that was the older tray loading iMacs.
