Here's a bit of an oddity.

Two LC630's, one is normal, one is the slightly-modified (video change +
extra DIMM socket) model that's the heart of the 630 DOS Compatible
(630DC).

I've a variety of 72-pin DIMMs here, including three 16 MB and five 32
MB ones.

The normal 630, with its single DIMM socket, happily recognises every
DIMM I put into it. The 630DC only recognises one of the 32 MB DIMMs,
and gives me the un-merry-melodies RAMcheck tune with all the others.

Is this normal?

There are specific requirements for the memory chips to be used on the
630, so it is quite possible you have one 32 MB SIMM that is compatible
and the rest are not. The second slot will only take up to a 16 MB
SIMM that is a single bank, nothing larger. As I recall, they need to
be 2K refresh memory. 4K refresh memory will not work. Maximum memory
is 52 MB if your logic board has 4 MB soldered to it as most do. Some
had 8 MB, giving a max of 56 MB.

Thank you for that exacting information, Joe. I believe I have some
appropriate DIMMs (and if not, know where to get them), so I will
experiment and report back.
