Hello. I have a Compatible systems Ether-write localtalk/ethernet
bridge attached to my Laserwriter 4/600 ps. It's a bridge similar to
the Etherprint adapters that Dayna made. This was the only way I could
find to use my old printer with my newer Mac. It's worked flawlessly
for about a year with my network hooked together using a simple
ethernet hub.

I just bought a wireless router (a Netgear MR314) and when connected I
get no signs of the printer and I can't even get a Link light out of
the router with the bridge attached. I specifically hunted down this
model of router because it has been successfully tested with
Appletalk.

Before the Ether-write would scan the network and then once the
network was detected a LED would stay solid and the Link would light
up the port of the hub. Now it just sets there flashing like it can't
detect the network. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried running it through the hub into the router. I have to do
this with some of my old computers because my Netgear router won't
autosense their network cards.

I remember reading some time ago in a Macworld article that the MR314
supports AppleTalk, but there's currently no indication at Netgear's web
site that this is true.

And indeed it works with Appletalk. Perhaps yours is simply broken. The
MR314 was made by Zyxel, so it's possible the current Zyxel offerings
will also work with Appletalk.

You could try hooking the hub up to the router and the bridge to the
hub; sometimes you'll get ports which are just out-of-spec enough to
work with some brands but not with others.

Probably because the MR314 is discontinued. The current MR814 does not
support Appletalk. The MR314 does.

They still have the MR314 listed.

Running it throught the hub to the router seems to solve the problem.
It now works flawlessly. Thanks to all.

I'm a bit annoyed that I have to have one more device plugged in. Now
I have one more transformer plugged into an already out-of-control
surge protector. I guess it's a small price to pay to have wireless
internet AND printing.
