Yes and no. You definitely try to convince friends and others to buy
stuff through the site, but there is no promise of blossoming profits
with each person who signs up under you (as would be the case in a true
pyramid scheme like Amway).

For example, if you sign up with the offer run by Gratis (one of the
proven companies), you can do something like a 1 month free trial to
eFax. If you know 10 other people who are willling to sign up under
you and play with eFax for 30 days for free (or any of their other
offers with a free trial period), you can qualify for the Mac. More
than 10 referals gets you nothing. The reward is one per household.
Period.
