Gents,
Would it make sense putting error-correcting memory modules in a
dual 2GHz Powermac G5 ?
I see that on-line prices of Kingston's 512MB ECC PC3200 DDR DIMMs are
quite comparable to what the Apple Store charges for non-ECC DIMMs.
I have no idea whether the Kingston modules are compatible with the G5
Mac, however
Do ECC modules require some support circuitry on the motherboard, or
do they do their error detection and correction entirely independently
of the memory controller ? Are there any performance disadvantages
with ECC memory -- e.g. increased read/write latencies ?
Thanks in advance for any info,
Michael
