Apple no longer sells the iPod AC Power Adapter Model A1003. In fact,
noone sells it. There are some aftermarket chargers available that
aren't half as elegant.

A strong sign that the classic 3G iPods are at the end of their
lifecycle. I wonder if Apple will sell only the mini-iPod in the
future, perhaps with larger drive capacities.

If you've got one -- don't lose it!! If you have one without an iPod,
they'll soon command a fine price on eBay.

Yes, they do. It goes by product number M8636G/B, and you'll find it
on http://store.apple.com/ under "iPod accessories." They cleverly
disguise it under the title "Extra Apple iPod Power Adapter." And the
same adapter works with ALL iPods, from first generation to mini.

Perhaps so. But that won't change the fact that the power adapters for
the mini are absolutely identical to the ones for the other iPods.
It's simply a transformer to power the pins in a standard FireWire
connector, to which you connect your particular iPod's data cable.

Suuuuure they will.

The URL I found it at is:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/71101/...H03UXfq

I don't know if this URL persist however. I wasn't able to find it by
searching. I have a lot of trouble finding things on Apple's store.
In this case I didn't see "iPod accesories" in the left hand column
(just Apple accessories). However, in the middle of the graphics,
there was an isolated entry called 'iPod Accessories'. I only
persisted in hunting for it because you said it was there.

From that page I found the adapter -- still for sale.

I then tried searching using the title of the 'iPod Power Adapter'. I
got about 15 pages, the Power Adapter wasn't on the first page.

Then I tried this Google search:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:store.apple.com+%22iPod+power+adap...%22&ie=

Maybe Apple should swallow its pride and try using Google?

Thanks for the correction and tip. I was wrong about the item being
discontinued, but I think Apple could do a lot to improve their online
store. I'd love to see a usability guru tackle their store. I think
the Apple of Old would have done a better job.
