Post subject: Absolute cell reference (F4 Key)
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>excel (more info?)

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I am using Excel 04 on a new IMac. The F4 key is hard-wired to the Dashboard, so the normal way of converting a relative cell reference (for example, =a3) to absolute ($a$3) - pushing the F4 key - is not available to me. I'd be happy to program another key to do this, but I don't see that Excel 04 has a command that I can assign to a key.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Hi Ed, on MacXL, the shortcut is cmd+t. You can also choose to customize the keyboard: Tools > Customize > Customize Keyboard.

Thanks,

Hi XinXin;

.... But although you can reassign F4 to other commands there is no available
"make reference absolute" command in the Commands list -- at least not that
I've ever been able to find. Nor is there an explicit command anywhere in
the menu structure. If you type the Command+T stroke in the Customize
dialog's "Press new shortcut key" field the message simply indicates that
the stroke is "Currently assigned to: A built-in keyboard shortcut" Smile
