I don't know about that. Wouldn't it clash with his white hooded robe?

You need to let them have a little fun, as the hour of doom for them
and their beloved Microshaft is approaching at a faster rate each day.
Soon their ranting will only be a fading memory and Microsoft about as
noteworthy as an old stain on the carpet. |

C'mon, chrisv, these trolls do make the newsgroup a little more lively,
even if they have to go to extremes to goad us into responses, the way
Linux seems to be taking off these days.

Is this the same John Locke that thought share price was indicative of
a company's worth?

Well..I guess that's right...I'd say that Microsoft is probably worth
about $30.00.

Share price *is* an indication of a company's worth,
when multiplied by the number of shares outstanding --
market cap. Of course, one has to be careful; Microsoft
has a lower share price (30.4 than Apple (100.72), but
Microsoft has 9.57 billion shares outstanding to Apple's
relatively measly 868 million.
There are a number of now dead companies whose stock
price plummeted to zero, during the 2000 crash -- the
"dot goners". In those cases, share prices indicate that
the company is now worth diddly-squat; presumably debt
exceeds assets.
For its part RHT weighs in at a stock price of 21.52 and
a market cap of $4.14B -- tiny compared to the other two,
but they're not exactly out of the hunt.

Also, the rate of change of the share price has the same significance no
matter what the market-cap is. 10% of X remains 10%, irrespective of
the value of X. The variation in share price is a corporate health
indicator - for example, no company should fall in value by 20% a year
without some jolly good explanation.
