Funny thing, that. 732 on the waiting list... many more accepted... yet
somehow we Linux folks have no problem dealing with it.

I guess DFS is simply lacking the mental capacity to cope with a fairly
simple set of options. Wonder how he'd handle, oh, a grocery store?
There might only be 10 varieties of yogurt and 40 of cheese, 30 of meats
and so on, but by the time you've done a decent shopping, you've made far
more than 700 choices. Wonder if Mommy does his shopping for him?

I find it rather refreshing...to each his own. If you want to live
in the stagnate world that Microsoft has created, then you are
most certainly free to make that choice.

I'm no Linux expert, but I'm having fun watching the distros
evolve into rather impressive desktop solutions.

Your distribution list is wrong by the way.

I hate to point out the obvious, but nearly all distros do at least an
annual release even if it is just to consolodate the previous years updates
from the system and applications writers. It just makes it easier for those
installing from scratch, less time spend in the update part.

There is potentially some important reasons for a release update now.
Virtualization has come a long way in the last year, usefull for some,
makes no difference to others, but very important for the distros to put in
a major change if their implementation might affect their users.

Nothing in these distro updates is at all mallicious. The reverse is true,
it is usefull information. I think most Linux's realise that updateing is a
choice, if the distro and version they have now is doing all that they want
to do, then an upgrade isn't necessary. But if they do want to keep up with
their favourite distro then a major version change reminds them to check in
with the distro's site to ensure a clean path for the upgrade.

Or giving both.

The reason I view security as a binary value is that if your level of
security can change, without the the code changing (ie, someone discoevers
a hole), then the code was never secure in the first place.

Good, good...
We'll have to get them to try harder.
If we can get 20 to appear on the same day, your head might explode.

Thank you very much for this helpful service, DFS.

You're a great Linux advocate.

The mind reels with the double entendre. You are very bad men.

It is ironic, though, isn't it. Just when Microsoft starts offering
some >cough< >cough< choice:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/defaul...spx?wt_

o Ultimate
o Home Premium
o Home Basic
o Business
o Enterprise

Confused? Don't worry. You can get all the information you need in
these wonderful Microsoft open formats:

Download the Windows Vista Product Guide

The Windows Vista Product Guide is a comprehensive overview of the
innovative features, functions, and benefits that the new operating
system offers.

* Download as XPS (24.7 MB) | Get the XPS viewer (What is XPS?)
* Download as DOCX (61.3 MB) | Get the compatibility pack

Trick question from Linonut:

Which of these two formats is BLOATED?

Why? Either you already use linux, then such choice is irrelevant, or you
use another OS or you are a newbie just installing Linux...

Which are you?
