$320/copy for Office Pro!?! 320 here, 320 there, starts to add up.

There's nothing WRONG with changing Accounting practices as long as what you
do is in accordance with the law. However, if that change means that last
years figures aren't comparable, and there is no way to make last year's
figures comparable, then it would make me a tad suspicious about WHY there
was a need to change in the first place - moving goal posts and all
that..... and I'm a retired Management Accountant....

You seem to know a lot about accounting. Could you explain then (in DETAIL)
exactly what accounting changes Microsoft made. I tried to look this up and
the only change that I could find is that they didn't make any changes to
how they do their accounting, the change was to how they do their reporitng.
They no longer report detailed unit performance figures (just summaries) but
the accounting (how they add up the number) is still the same.

Bad idea IMHO.
Pretty soon you with all the filtering goig on their won't
be anyone to talk to!!
Seriously, my advice is to debate the reasonable posts
and simply ignore the flame bait.
As for investing in MSFT, the market is going wild
at the moment and people are making tons of money.
Last I heard, the average amount made by investing
at the start of the year to present hovers
around 17 percent. This is for the market in general.
That's a lot of profit, and it's the average.
It will crash and as usual the greedy middle
class person will burn but the rich will
still be rich when the smoke clears.

There's the commission to take into account as well and bear in mind that there
is cheating. A Microsoft exec (VP?) got caught stealing money from investor
last week (inside trading).

The stock market is like a casino. Only the few who end up making a buck will
actually speak out and brag.

About trolls: do not reply to them. The only ones that get filtered or ignored
are those who come here to fight /against/ Linux. When you feed them, you
encourage their participation and implicitly endorse their behaviour.

Here you go. You have been ORDERED not to reply to people that Schestowitz
does not approve of. He's not suggesting that you don't reply, or asking
that you not reply. He has simply ordered you "Do not reply to them."

Roy Schestowitz and Roy alone will decide who you can reply to, when, under
what circumstances and what you may and may not say to people. Of course
it's because Linux is about freedom. And Roy will decide yours and everyone
elses freedom for you.

Got it?

Agreed. I worked for several financial firms back in the 1980s and let's just
say there was quite a lot of insider stuff going on. I had nothing
to do with trading etc. I was a tech in the glass house.

> The stock market is like a casino. Only the few who end up making a buck will

Yes it is, only some people have an advantage, legal or otherwise.

> About trolls: do not reply to them. The only ones that get filtered or ignored

I agree for the flame bait types and vulgar people but I see some discussion
and pov that seem reasonable and deserve some counter arguments but they
are lumped into the troll bin simply because they may not agree with
everything Linux. IMHO that's not a good thing because it ends up portraying
Linux users as being narrow minded and not willing to reason.
I wouldn't waste time on proved trolls though. I have not been here long
enough to know who is who but I'm learning slowly, but surely.

This is a lie.

Actually no I don't.
Roy seems reasonable to me and some of *your* points seem reasonable
as well.
The difference is that you destroy the good parts of your posts
by acting foolish.
Roy seems to act like a professional adult who is strongly opinionated
for sure but he expresses his opinions like a gentleman.
He is very polite and offers at least some reasonable evidence for
his claims. That is the way it should be.x
Maybe if you did the same, you might get some good dialog going
concerning *your* opinions?
Just a thought.

And you have the added advantage that your

report the amount of toilet paper you use,
how many flushes per week and if you
leave the toilet cover down or up!

Well done! And many many other businesses are discovering
the advantages of avoiding Microsoft software, upgrades
and operating systems and of using Linux. Those
of your competitors who fail to do this will be stuck
with incompatibilites, needs for extravagant memory
upgrades, older or installed software that no longer
works and greater expense for
software purchases, upgrades and
maintenance and so on, giving your company an immediate
and significant competitive advantage.

To have collateral
damage to apps that are working just fine
after spending $$$ to upgrade to Vista
is just plain stupid but at least you were honest
and admit it. Business does not have time
or $$$ to waste on Microsoft issues - and
that's why Microsoft is in BIG trouble
as a company even though sales
appear to be just fine (note
I said "appear" to be).

EVERYBODY has Microsoft's number now
and no bullshit they spout is going to
fool anyone.
