I get the message
"GRUB Loading stage2Read Error"
when trying to boot. This was after
successfully building a Linux-only
system on a new blank hard drive by
installing Fedora Core 5 from my
CD-ROM set using the easiest
possible way -- by taking all the
defaults. Did I miss some fine
print along the way?

I did a Google search of "stage2Read"
and found a long thread in
comp.os.linux.setup from 2005 which,
frankly, made my eyes glaze over...
and it wasn't resolved, anyway.

That usually has something to do with not detecting a motherboard or
add-on RAID. Could you offer a bit more info (MB, HD setup, etc).

Be glad to, but it's hard to know how
detailed to be -- I'm a software guy.
Here's a first approximation, let
me know if you need more:

The mother board vendor still had a
link to the product info:
http://tinyurl.com/2j4fs2

In addition, I have
--one 512MB memory module
--one IDE 80GB hard drive
--one IDE CD-ROM RW drive
--a floppy drive
