Hmm. I don't have this problem, *but* have you made sure that the "cups-lpd"
service is enabled, and have you reviewed the "we don't document it you
n00b, just read the source" configuration files in /etc/cups? Also, as root
and as a user, do you have a "PRINTER" environment variable set?
CUPS configuration is extremely painful for new users: Eric Raymond wrote a
very strong write-up of the issues that got posted on
www.slashdot.org some
time back.
