What is a few years ago? It's been exploding since torrents.

One of the main reasons.

true.

No. You clearly have no idea how advanced the PC games are and at what
resolutions they run at. It really is very impressive.

Yup. Thank god for USB 2. |

Agreed. Linux has no where near 2% of the desktop market. I wish it had more.

Bullshit. Almost no one does that. Ever hear of televisions, Tivos,
and DVD players? The "average Joe" does NOT use his PC for watching
"movies and shows". |

Yeah, I'm sure a whopping 1% of PC users actually do that. |

Internet traffic patterns usually indicate that most traffic is p2p,
moving audio and video files. How many users that encompasses, I don't
know, but it is far more common than you seem to recognise.

It's the majority of internet traffic, next being pr0n.

I don't doubt that, but that doesn't mean the majority of people do
it. Video takes so much bandwidth that the 1% doing it can easily
comsume 50% of the bandwidth. |

No, but you can store the same programs on your DVR right off of
the cable station.
What I meant was that the shows are ON cable, not that they
are USING cable to download them, even though many are.
As far as piracy is concerned, if it comes into my house
via the cable system I pay for (tv's), I can do anything
I want with it other than selling it or charging to view it.
The riaa will disagree I am sure but screw them. |

Every single person I know does.
Not everyone subscribes to the premium stations that have programs
like the Sopranos etc.
Those programs are all over the torrents etc.
It's HUGE. |

You must remember that "chrisv" is a long term Linux user and thinks 256
colors on the desktop "is enough" and "meets his needs".
Like most COLA "zealots" (or the COLA gang as I call them), he has NO
idea how computers are used on the average desktop these days or what
advances Apple and MS have made in terms of video and audio sub systems. |
