REDMOND, Wash.- Microsoft Windows will run more PCs than there are cars
in the world by the end of Microsoft's fiscal year 2008, said Microsoft
CEO Steve Ballmer July 26 at the company's analyst day here

The software giant announced it sold 60 million copies of Windows Vista
this year, more than the entire installed base of Apple, and is well on
the way to reaching 1 billion Windows users by the end of the fiscal
year, Ballmer and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner told analysts and
reporters. The latest number includes 40 million copies sold in the
first 100 days of the product's January release.

Besides, Microsoft doesn't sell licences, it merely shoves them down the
pipeline so that retailers sit on them, mostly unable to shift them to
users, at the moment.

Gartner Says Worldwide PC Shipments to Increase 11 Percent Due in
Part to Strong Uptake in Emerging Markets

First Half Sales Show Vista Operating System Has Not Been a Growth
Driver for the PC Industry

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,134759-pg,1/article.html

Desktop PC Sales Slow Ahead of Expected Intel Price Cut
Global PC sales have slowed as the market waits for Intel to announce
new price reductions, market researchers said.

Obviously, Microsoft is generating Vista sales numbers out of its
monopoly ass, and your theory likely has much merit.

Anyway, maybe I should have waited a couple months before buying my new
AMD64!

All of a sudden Gartner's word is golden. Yep, this is cola alright: Land
of the Hypocrites.

He is not making any claims. You are. So back it up. You're the
accountant - prove the initial link to be false accounting as you claim.
