Dear Prashant,
What you see when booting into your window manager is that your monitor
cannot accept you refresh-rate... It is probably set too high... Normally
the monitor's refresh-rate should be detected by most distro's... however
for some reason fedora doesn't do this in your case.
What you could try is booting without an X-server or you could try hitting
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (two or three times if necessary). You can then get to a
command-prompt where you'd issue 'Xorg -configure' and after that 'nano
/etc/xorg.conf', you'll be editing a file with which you are able to set
your monitor's refresh-rate manually (horizontal and vertical, a manual of
your monitor is necessary to get these specs). I assumed Xorg, maybe you
have another X-server... but I think this should do the trick.
Sincerely,
Stéphane |

I'm sorry... it's probably /etc/X11/xorg.conf instead of /etc/xorg.conf |

OK... what you need to do is kill the X-server with the key-combination I
told you about and do that when your PC is already booted... if that doesn't
get you to a command prompt... try using a LiveCD like knoppix to mount your
HD and edit the file from there.
I said you should issue 'nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf', nano is a text edit so
that not a prompt anymore and then you should quit nano (saving first of
course) by hitting Ctrl-C (I think, but its marked anyway).
What you should add is these lines:
HorizSync xx-xxx
VertRefresh xx-xxx
under Section "Monitor"
and make sure you replace the x's by the refresh rates from your monitor's
manual.
If you're afraid... don't be, just try... that how I figured out these
things too... and for these kind of problems there's plenty of documentation
by just googling too.
Sincerely,
Stéphane |

Hello,
I believe that there is problem with Fedora, which doesn't want to
cooperate with your ati card.
You can try the following steps to make them work together:
1. boot fedora core - you will see this screen with rerfresh rate
information. wait few minutes (to let the system boot), then use
combination of keys Ctrl+Alt+F2 (or F3, F4, etc - except of F1 and
F7 )
2. When you will be promped for login, login as user root.
3. now you are logged and have a command line. as root perform these
actions:
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
yum install mkinitrd
yum install kmod-fglrx
aticonfig --initial
now you can reboot your machine and everything should work properly.

Hello,
yes, you will need an internet connection, because all the
repositories needed for all this stuff are simply downloaded from
internet.
BTW. if you encounter any problems during switching with (CTRL+ALT+Fx)
try out killing/restarting x server with combination of CTRL+ALT
+BACKSPACE when you see the screen with refresh rate problem.
As a metter of fact, you will have to fight with this screen, using
combinations of Atl+Fx, CRTL+ALT+BACKSAPCE and CTRL+ALT+Fx
BTW. 2 - when i was doing this stuff on my machine, i have encountered
a problem after executing
yum install kmod-fglrx
It was afeter intalling new kernel.
After reeboot and fighting with the "screen" i have executed
yum install kmod-fglrx
again and continued with other stuff (aticonfig --initial)
That worked just fine for me on both fedoras 6 (32 and 64 bit)
Good Luck
