How can I know which Fedora core it is (we have Fedora machine)?. Also
how can I know which is the latest Fedora core released?. Suppose if I
want to upgrade from Fedora Core 2 to Core 3, how can I do that (is the
patch sufficient)?.

I just visited Redhat.Fedora news group, it says I am not a member, so
I cannot post any question to that group, How can I get membership in
that news group?. Is it free or paid?.

Thanks.

Try any of these:

rpm -q fedora-release
cat /etc/issue.net
cat /etc/fedora-release

Which newsgroup is this?

"cat /etc/fedora-release" or "rpm -q fedora-release"

See http://fedora.redhat.com/

Boot with the install CD, and choose "Upgrade existing installation"
when the program asks you if you want to upgrade or do a complete
install.

Newsgroups don't require "membership". You visited a WWW forum, mailing
list or some other discussion system that's not a newsgroup. Look for
registration instructions on the site you visited.
