Package: xvnc4viewer
Version: 4.1.1+X4.3.0-21
Severity: normal
The manual page of xvnc4viewer, obtained by doing
man xvnc4viewer
just mentions that the current vncviewer supports 3 encoding mechanisms -
"ZRLE", "hextile" or "raw". But it does not explain what those encodings
are and when to actually use them. I was very confused when I read the
manual page as to what they actually are. Even the upstream's website
(
www.realvnc.com ) does not explain what they are. It would be nice to
briefly explain about these encoding mechanisms and tell the users that
"ZRLE" is good for dial up connections, "raw" is good for high speed LANs
etc.,
If necessary, you can also borrow information from tightvnc's website (
http://www.tightvnc.com/vncviewer.1.html , ENCODINGS section ).
