Bug#398642: bug in links2 or some build-dep package/binary?

Hello,

On an up to date etch host, I can't reproduce the 2.1pre23-1 build. The
original .deb works with X by 'links2 -g' but the self compiled one
doesn't:

$ ./debian/links2/usr/bin/links2 -g

I think something in the build environment has changed and perhaps the
configure script gets out of control?
