Post subject: How to set up a wireless printer
Archived from groups: alt>os>linux>debian (more info?)

I just bought a very nice little HP OfficeJet 6500 E709n printer which I have
added to my network as a wireless device. All of my machines will print to it
fine, except for my Debian Lenny box. I ran hp-setup as per the instructions I
found by googling and used a temporary USB connection to the printer to set it up..
it seemed to go fine. But now I have tried to add a printer via System->Administration->Printing

New Printer
It sees my printer under the Devices list and shows the correct IP address and port
in the "Location of the network printer" panel.

I click "Forward"
Select printer from database
Select the Officejet 6500 e709n hpijs from the list
I click "Forward"
Fill in the blanks and hit Apply
Now it says:

Missing driver

Printer 'printer' requires the 'foomatic-rip-hplip' program but it is not currently
installed. Please install it before using this printer.

But I ran hp-setup so according to what I read, this missing program is already there
with the name "foomatic-rip". How can I make this work?

Thanks

Sorted out... installed

hoih

hpijs

then ran /etc/init.d/hpoj setup

When I added the printer this time it saw it and added it no problems.
