Hi, a.o.l.s

Just migrated to 10.2 (from 9.3). Most stuff seems to be working, but
just noticed that I can't use the <alt><ctrl><Fn> keys to switch to a
virtual console.

<alt><ctrl><Backspace> still restarts the x server, but I miss the ability
to drop to a console. Any ideas what I need to tweak to get it back?
could it be related to the NVidia driver?

Actually it might be a keyboard thing. Looks like kde/kwin is ignoring the
W*n keys and the Function keys. They work (xev reports keycode 115 for
the win key).

Any ideas?

None you're going to like. I had the same issue in PC Linux OS, but not in
Kubuntu, so I don't think it's my hardware. My belief is some kernels work
(in this regard), and some don't.

No, not a kernel thing - it works as normal in text-mode (runlevel 3).
Possibly its kdm, rather than KDE or possibly X.

OK, so I know no-one here really cares Smile

for posterity, I fixed it by installing keytouch and xkeyboard-config.
Restarted X and all is well. Have my Win keys back too.

It's not that nobody cares, it's just that we don't have the problem.
My Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc. works. Can be difficult to suggest a solution
to a problem we've never seen before. I don't think your problem
is commonplace.... but I'm glad you found a solution.
