Post subject: locale-archive deleted --system down
Archived from groups: linux>redhat>rpm (more info?)

By mistake i deleted the locale-archive file in /usr/lib/locale
and now my system is down .
Can anybody help with a solution .Can this be be created again by
running some rpm's .But the machine is down .
Here's my red hat version details :

Linux version 2.4.21-27.ELsmp (bhcompile@bugs.build.redhat.com) (gcc
version 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-47))

You still should be able to boot in a single-user mode, I think.
Never tried really with missing /usr/lib/locale. Smile

Boot from a rescue media (CD, DVD, network) and '--force' reinstall a
correct version of 'glibc-common' package in a correct place using '-r'
option to rpm. Should be enough to boot multi-user. After you booted
run 'rpm -Va > /var/tmp/checklog' and look in results for 'missing'
files. Various files from /usr/lib/locale could have been installed by
other packages. Likely the quickest thing is to restore that directory
from backups. You can do that from your "rescue" boot.

Your installation media are sufficient to boot "rescue".

Not really an rpm problem.
