Post subject: ld cannot find -lssl error
Archived from groups: linux>redhat>rpm (more info?)

Hi All,

My computer: Dual Xeon,7505 chipset, Red Hat 9
rpm -qa "*make*" "*automake*" "*autoconf*"
autoconf-2.57-3 make-3.79.1-17 pmake-1.45-10 automake-1.6.3-5

which make automake autoconf
/usr/bin/make /usr/bin/automake /usr/bin/autoconf

I seem to be able to compile the nail rpm on any
computer, except one Red hat 9 server. I use the
following command:

rpmbuild -ta nail-10.6.tar.gz

It runs for a while, then I get the following in my
BUILD/config.log:

configure:1225: gcc -o conftest -O2 -g -march=i386
-mcpu=i686 conftest.c -lssl -lcrypto 1>&5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

What in the world is "-lssl" and how do I fix this?

Many thanks,
--Tony

You need to have openssl / openssl-devel installed.
