Just wanted to double check that it is possible before I go out and buy one.
I'm not changing my graphics card or anything else, just motherboard cpu and
memory so a re-install should be fine, have no problems with my current
config.

Yeah - you'll want to be more concerned about the chipset than the
CPU. Some of them act a bit wacky. However, once you get it running
- be prepared for some blinding fast performance.
