Post subject: [gentoo-user] 'emerge portage' and "Error: the virtual/os-headers package conflicts with another package"
Archived from groups: linux>gentoo>user (more info?)

Hi,

performing "emerge -vD world" again after two weeks without emerging
anything stops during emerging portage:
....
>>> sys-apps/portage-2.0.50-r9 merged.
sys-apps/portage
selected: 2.0.50-r8
protected: 2.0.50-r9
omitted: none
>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
....
--- !targe sym /usr/bin/emerge
* Caching service dependencies...
Calculating world dependencies ...done!

!!! Error: the virtual/os-headers package conflicts with another
package.
!!! both can't be installed on the same system together.

"emerge -pvD world" shows me that the installed linux-headers-2.4.22 is
blocking linux26-headers-2.6.6-r1. So I unmerged linux-headers-2.4.22.
Now "emerge -pvD world" says:
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.22 0 kB
[ebuild N ] media-libs/jpeg-mmx-1.1.2-r1 555 kB
[ebuild N ] sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.6-r1 0 kB
....

"emerge -vD world" installs then linux-headers-2.4.22 and
linux26-headers-2.6.6-r1 as well. Is this intentionally?
"emerge -pvD linux-headers linux26-headers" shows:
[blocks B ] sys-kernel/linux26-headers ("virtual/os-headers" from
pkg sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.22)
[ebuild R ] sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.22 0 kB
[ebuild R ] sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.6-r1 0 kB

What should I do?

Regards Juergen
