Hi,

Few days ago I have moved to gentoo. It seems like world db
doesn't remember USE flags used while emerging. I mean concrete
emerging like this:

USE="this-emerging-flags" emerge myFavouritePackage

Next reemerging demands to set USE flags again.

I know it is possible to set flags globally, but it isn't sutable
for some cases.

Is such amnesia by design? Have I missed something? Must I file RFE?

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

that is by design - you may set package specific USE Flags in
/etc/portage/package.use

Read 'man portage' for details.

Hi,

The syntax USE="Y" emerge X is a feature of the shell.
It adds the variable USE to the environment of the new process.
After the death of the process the variable doesn't exist any more.
If you want persistency you should add the variable
to /etc/portage/package.use

no, it just looked different than other text. The only thing different
was this MIME header:
Content-type: text/plain; charset=windows-1255

It was all left aligned, though.

Hi Andrew,

Is it all right now.
My last message was written by mistake using a Hebrew character set.
