in gentoo hanbook, there is something about blocks:
[blocks B ] mail-mta/ssmtp (is blocking mail-mta/postfix-2.2.2-r1)
To fix a blockage, you can choose to not install the package or
unmerge the conflicting package first. In the given example, you can
opt not to install postfix or to remove ssmtp first.

my question is how to not to install postfix?

THNX, every one!

Much depends on what you are emerging, say

emerge postfix

in this case, to not install postfix is to not run the emerge.
In case you are trying to install something that would be depending on
postfix, then you would have to not install the program.

Sometimes there can be a use flag that would try to install a package, in that
case you need to disable the use flag in your make.conf or your packages.use.

As far as I know, the last two won't affect postfix.

Install another MTA that provides "virtual/mta" instead? sendmail and exim
are popular alternatives. If you have something that works as an MTA, you
can also add "virtual/mta" to /etc/portage/package.provided, and the
bitching should stop.

That said, there is a chance that you have installed something that
specifically requires postfix. In which case you need to unmerge those
packages first.

Just don't install it. You've already got an MTA installed, so
there's no need for postfix.
