Post subject: broken JPEG thumbnailing in nautilus 2.20
Archived from groups: linux>debian>maint>gtk>gnome (more info?)

I'm having some strange thumbnailing issues with new nautilus 2.20:

1) thumbnails used to have fancy border and dropshadow, now in 2.20 they
are gone and I'm getting simple plain thumbnail without any "effects"

2) I've been using JPEG thumbnails as custom icon for some directories,
now after upgrade I'm getting default "empty gray piece of paper" icon
on some of those directories. When I try to reassign custom icon, I'm
getting

....
** Message: Failed to close thumbnail pixbuf loader
for /home/user/tmp/sample.jpg: Error interpreting JPEG image file
(Application transferred too few scanlines)
....

Image used as a source for custom icon itself is thumbnailed ok, problem
comes only when I try to use it as a custom icon for directory.

Thanks for any hint.

Vit

I can reproduce this as well.

It's a good news, thanks.

I see. Can someone please try to set this image

http://81.19.47.234/misc/sample.jpg

as a custom icon for a directory using nautilus 2.20? Please let me know
how it worked.

Thanks, it's very kind of you.

(Post scriptum: Now when I think about your bug report, I'm pretty sure
I've already met this bug when 2.14 or maybe 2.16 got into Debian. It
must had been fixed then, as I had no problem while using 2.1Cool

Just for a record: I've just noticed JPEGs up to 32 kB in file size are
thumbnailed including the frame and shadow, bigger ones are thumbnailed
as borderless. Well, let's wait for patched nautilus.

Hi,

I did

# apt-get source nautilus
# apt-get build-dep nautilus

Then I've manually applied fix

http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/nautilus/trunk/libnautilus-private/nautilu...con-fac

to libnautilus-private/nautilus-icon-factory.c, then I've rebuilt the
packages

$ cd nautilus-2.20.0/
$ fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage

I got a bunch of new ones, namely

libnautilus-extension1_2.20.0-1_amd64.deb
nautilus-data_2.20.0-1_all.deb
libnautilus-extension-dev_2.20.0-1_amd64.deb
nautilus-dbg_2.20.0-1_amd64.deb
nautilus_2.20.0-1_amd64.deb

which I installed with no problems. New nautilus works, I've got fancy
thumbnail borders back!

Sorry for verbose story, but I hope this can be of some use to
someone Wink

(Great thanks to all those who made package building process in Debian
so smooth and comfortable!)
