Hello,

I am having trouble getting my D-Link WUA-1340 wireless adapter to work
on openSUSE 11.1. It actually installed as auto--configure on
installation and worked flawlessly. But I am trying to get it to work
with the RT-PAE kernel with no success.

The Ralink driver is installed, the WPE hexadecimal, shared key is right
and it's set to managed. I've tried configured at boot and hot-plug.

The only thing I can think of that I haven't done is to install the
RT-PAE kernel source, and it's not in the repository as far as I can see.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

First switch off all encryption in the modem and then try, so you know where the
problem is. Once you get that working then switch on encryption.

Do you get anything if you do
iwlist s

By "WPE hexadecimal" do you mean "WEP" or "WPA"? I have had problems
with Ubuntu and WEP that were resolved by switching to WPA2.

Sorry, typo, that's WEP. I'd like to use WPA2 but inputing the whole key
into my HP Photosmart printer/scanner on the keypad runaround changed my
mind to using the shorter WEP. I know it's not as secure, but I
seriously doubt anyone in the short range of wireless g is trying to
break into my system.

OK, but my point is that I know that there are Linux distros that have
issues with WEP for some reason. The symptoms you describe are almost
identical to what I experienced some months back with Ubuntu, so it
might be worth the pain of inputing the key. I really haven't gotten a
handle on Linux and wireless, but WPA2 does seem to produce fewer of
those moments.
