Upgrade to AMD-64

Is there a way to move from i386 to AMD-64 system,
without starting from scratch?

Almost from scratch but ... You may use most of /etc data. So
* install amd64 to a new partition,
* boot into amd64
* mount old system to somewhere
* copy as much configuration
