Post subject: Uninstalling X packages
Archived from groups: linux>redhat>rpm (more info?)

Hello,

I am not a Linux guru so I would really appreciate if someone can help me.
I have Red Hat 9.0 and trying to uninstall X packages. I want only command
line on a system. How can I do this and which packages I should remove?
Security reasons push me to uninstall X packages, so I should remove
everything connected with it!

Thanks in advance!

rpm -e --nodeps XFree86

don't forget to modify your /etc/inittab to startup on a console mode of your
choise.

I would recommend to do a: rpm -e XFree86
and then look what dependency failures raise up. Notice all the packages
which require the XFree86 package and then do:

rpm -e $LONG_LIST_OF_X_PACKAGES

There might occur more dependencies. Erase them all.
