Is there a source level debugger (SLD) available for Linux other than
GDB or something that front ends GDB (e.g. DDD).

I want something that doesn't depend on GDB; i.e. a self contained SLD.
I'm perfectly willing to pay for a commercial product.

I found something; TotalView from etnus.com. It's cross platform with
versions for Linux, AIX, Solaris and others.
