Post subject: Slow loading of first page from any site
Archived from groups: opera>linux (more info?)

For any site I visit with Opera (either 10.0 or 9.62) on linux (Ubuntu
9.04), it takes somewhere between 10 and 15 seconds before the pages
begins to load. ("Document: 0 B" or "Document: 0 %" is displayed during
the wait). When it loads, it typically renders (gets displayed) in at most
two seconds - myspace.com pages being a notable exception.

Firefox on same system is much faster. Opera and Internet Explorer in
Vista (same computer) is faster yet (Loads and displays in 0-3 seconds).

Anyone else sees this? I suspect (and hope) there is a setting that can
correct this, but which one(s)? I haven't changed any of the Network
settings and I don't use a proxy.

yes - the solution with manual DNS described on launchpad seems to work
for me. I'll explore the my.opera branch later...

Thanks!

Glad it helped.

You could set the DNS manually to the DNS servers provided by your ISP.

In my case that's faster than OPENDNS
