When you had networking issues ?

I have just found that my Atheros mini-pci card (module = ath5k) reports
lower than usual signal levels from my inhouse AP with Ubuntu-09.04

Plugging in a RT73 based USB wifi adaptor (module = rt73usb) increased
the signal from my AP by about +20 dBm!

This is a rough and ready comparison, but it's clear to me that the

(Using WICD with dBm selected via the advanced settings)

I think he said it was wired.

Well, well, well.

wicd eh.

It seems like only yesterday that when I mentioned how superior wicd was
you all called me a liar and Liarmutt told us, rather grandly, that
network-manager and some other hack "met his needs".

Thanks for pinging me.

My system is wired.

Here is the oddity: When I installed Ubuntu 9.10 I had limited
connectivity and even when booting from a live CD on a totally different
machine I had the same problem.

If I booted to Ubuntu 9.04 or any other operating system for that
matter...no problems

However, after a day or two...everything started working normally...
with me doing nothing...as the live cd was working too
(obviously nothing could be changed there)

So the problem seems to have been with my ISP or maybe my router

but still...it makes no sense whatever

Thanks for the comments...

I am not too much of a musician...but I enjoy music and seek out
excellent musicians.

Though I am more into jazz...this is the last show we went to

http://www.myspace.com/missrubyann

Though I earn my living as a service engineer, I do a lot of photography
and help out my fiancé (who's and artist) run an art gallery.
Additionally I have my own computer repair business that I really am not
making anything on...but may expand if I ever retire from my 'real' job.

But to relax..I fool around a lot with computers .

All my data are backed up numerous times and I am such a horrible geek
that between my three or four main computers and all the removable drive
kits I have...I've literally got dozens of different installations/
operating systems at my disposal.

I keep trying out new distributions and operating systems...
so if one is giving me problems...my need to sort things out is strictly
academic.

Most folks would panic if their machine would go up in a puff of smoke...
I simply "KVM" over to the next machine on-line <G>

(Yes, that did happen once...got to it later. It was just the power
supply , no big deal I always keep six spares)

I love good music and that's why I give Marti some credit, at least he
advocates Linux, by making CD's using Linux software.
Marti has no mind of his own, though. He supports all kinds of social
misfits and retards in COLA, who never were Linux advocates.
Most of them write Windows software every day, Marti would never do that.
