In a particular professional environment, the quite competent Active
Directory admin has set the domain to expire idle hostnames. That
seems quite reasonable, except that it keeps expiring the hostname of
my CentOS 5 development box, even though it's not completely idle.
(When I need it, I need it!)
The box has two network ports, only one of which is normally connected
(eth0), eth0. Both ports are DHCP enabled, and using DHCP reservations
from Active Directory to get their information. But the A record for
eth0 keeps disappearing, every few weeks!
I'm not sure whether Active Directory is expecting me to use /etc/
dhclient.conf, or what: I've got the network and local information set
manually and correctly, but losing DNS causes NFS and other issues.
Does anyone know how to get an upstream Active Directory how *NOT* to
expire a Linux host's DNS information, even when expiration is turned
on? |

Are WAGs permitted? Does not a ping from your machine say it is not idle?

Sory, I've been busy. What do you mean by "WAG" in this case?
The IP address is still active, pings based on it still work. |
