Post subject: How To Find packages included in gcc 3.3.3
Archived from groups: linux>redhat>rpm (more info?)

Hi all,
I am a newbie to linux. I want to make a rpm from a gcc 3.3.3 source
tar files. I read the online documentation and found that this versions
include other packages like fortran77, java, libgcj etc. so there is no
need to download other packages if one downloads the entire gcc 3.3.3.
Now when I am making the spec file I have to give the %package macro
the packages I want to install. But I am not able to find that which
are the other packages supported by the gcc so i don't need to install
them. I extracted the tar file and read the readme file but it does not
give information on which are the packages available. Also how can we
know from the source package other libraries which may be required or
conflicting with gcc. Actually I want to know if there any
documentation with the source tar files or on the Internet where we can
know these details and can help me in making the spec file for gcc.

Suppose we get the source file for any other package than how can we
find these details in those packages?

regards,
pks.

If you are newbie, I'd start on something simpler. Packaging gcc is
most definitely non-trivial. You can see what I mean by non-trivial, by
examining the gcc*.src.rpms provided by some prominent linux distros,
like redhat, mandrake, suse, etc.
