Hi Group,

I am having issues during installation of Fedora Core 7.

Following is my configuration.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Compaq Presario 6000
(LAPTOP)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64-bit
Graphics Driver: Nvidia Geforce 7600GT
RAM: 512 MB
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Win XP works fine. During the installation process, it goes fine uptil
selecting teh packages. But in the next screen, as soon as i press
NEXT, it gives error, and gives me two options:

1. DEBUG
2. OK.

Seeing this, i searched on net, and now i suspect that this issue is
because of the Nvidia Graphics driver i am having. There is no relief
after thsi point to me.

Going forward, i tried installing it using Text mode installation. To
my surprise, it went fine, and i as able to BOOT the laptop. Without
enabling any Xwindows, Gnome, or KDe it asks for a login. After
logging, it gives me shell prompt.
But here if i try doing:

# init 5 (For GUI purpose)

it simply hangs, and nothing is displayed on screen.

Please suggest me any way, where by i can use Core 7 on my laptop.

PS: This is first time i am trying to install Linux on my system.

Regards,

Swapan

You could try running system-config-display, but you may have to read
up on (fedora forum on the web) using Nvidia stuff to get it to work.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

Last night, i again gave one more try to make it run on RUN LEVEL 5.
Good news, it worked.

I ran the following command:

# chcon -t texrel_shlib_t /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.
1

It worked for me.

I checked the man page for chcon. It is about the permissions. Can't
understand how changing permissions made it to work.

Jim/Group,

Can you help me with 2 of my doubts:

1. I was not able to instal Fedora Core 7 in Graphical mode. This
thing still confuses me. The same installation worked in Text Mode.

2. What this command ahs actually done.

Regards,
Swapan
