Early adopters bloodied by Ubuntu's Karmic Koala
Posted: 3rd November 2009 03:36 GMT

Ubuntu 9.10 is causing outrage and frustration, with early adopters wishing
they'd stuck with previous versions of the Linux distro.

Blank and flickering screens, failure to recognize hard drives, defaulting
to the old 2.6.28 Linux kernel, and failure to get encryption running are
taking their toll, as early adopters turn to the web for answers and log
fresh bug reports in Ubuntu forums.

Canonical and Ubuntu should be worried. Typically, it's the more technical
users overall who install Ubuntu - and early adopters tend to be the most
technical of the technical.

If these people are experiencing problems they cannot solve, then the
outlook for Ubuntu among a broader, less technical consumer base -
especially on prized netbooks against Windows 7 - is not great.

Motoh called Ubuntu 9.10 "a huge disappointment", writing "All in all, a
very underwhelming release. You can do better, Canonical."

It does! Wonderfully!

As does 64-bit Fedora.

The little twoll's jealous 'cos he can't get a 64-bit distro installed
properly.

For that matter: He can't get a 32bit install too
Well, being a Snot Michael Glasser "student" certainly has some drawbacks

Shuttleworth and everyone else over at Canonical should make a public
apology for unleashing this disaster on unsuspecting users. But I'm sure
that the Lethargic Lemming release will fix everything.

If it's Ubuntu 9.10 you actually have a point.

Ahlstrom has his marching orders to take the focus off of the miserable,
bug riddled Ubuntu 9.10 karmic.

Roy has been training him well.

They should because Ubuntu 9.10 karmic is really *that* bad.

However they will simply start fudding the next release claiming the bugs
will be fixed in that release and leave the victims on their own for the
most part.

In fact they have started already.

I did try Debian 64 bit about 2 years ago I think it was. It was not
noticeably faster than 32 bit and various things did not work. So I went
back to 32 bit. Why would I even need 64 bit? My development machine
runs FINE with 2 gigs of memory and an Intel 2 core duo.

Ahlstrom crowing about his amount of bits reeks of fanboi.
