Post subject: Bug#554850: pdftk messes up non-ascii characters in output filenames
Archived from groups: linux>debian>bugs>dist (more info?)

Package: pdftk
Version: 1.41-3
Severity: normal

I used pdftk to merge three pdf files into one. pdftk mangled the name
of the output file. non-ascii unicode characters were destroyed.

This should not happen, and I think pdftk actually do unnecessary work here.
If pdftk would simply take filenames from the command line and use them
_unchanged_, then there would be no problems no matter what encoding
is in use. But pdftk is clearly doing character conversion on filenames, which
is unnecessary and prone to go wrong.

My command:

pdftk a.pdf b.pdf c.pdf cat output byggesøknad.pdf

The word "byggesøknad" is a norwegian word, that describes the content.

pdftk did not produce a file named "byggesøknad.pdf".
It created instead "byggesøknad.pdf", which is meaningless
and I had to fix it with mv.

I can confirm that the problem is solved in version 1.41+dfsg-2.
