So, the path has been cleared:

Could you please add arj and p7zip to Recommends now?

Err, actually they're already. I meant to say that tasksel should be
installing them.

Hello Gustavo,

Please take a look on this bug report since you're one of people
taking care of tasksel desktop task.

Thanks in advance,

The problem here is that tasksel call 'aptitude --without-recommends'
to install the packages so it won't be direct affected by apt changes
in terms of install recommends by default[0] when possible, that mvo
just announced. As mvo also wrote, d-i "is already ready for this move
and so it shouldn't affect the installation. It's currently disabling
it, explicitely.".

Keep in mind that tasksel is mainly used during installation so to
keep stuff sane, I wouldn't remove '--without-recommends' argument
from tasksel at least before October 1st, otherwise the tasks will
unintentionally bloat a test installation.

That's why it has been reassigned to tasksel. Would be nice to include
it explicitely on the task since it won't be pulled automatically
during installation.

That's what I want your opinion.

For the record, file-roller (which IMO is the only GNOME package
relevant in this discussion) has a recommend on p7zip already and I
bumped the arj suggest to a recommends.

Please note that another user complained about the arj recommends we
had in the past: #425104; I personally think it's ok to pull free
software if it makes file-roller work out of the box, and people can
uninstall the recommend if they so wish.
