Hi,
Is there any way to get the VLC plugin (in Ubuntu package mozilla-
plugin-vlc providing libvlcplugin.so) to work in Opera 9.63 ?
It works in FF but will not work in Opera, even though the plugin is
recognized and listed in opera:plugins. I made sure the plugin is
detected under Tools > Preferences... > Content > Plug-in Options and
tried all kinds of settings under Downloads. For instance manually
selecting the VLC plugin for the WMV format.
Still, opera refuses to use that plugin and reverts to any other
plugin available whether it is Gecko Media, Mplayer or Totem plugin...
If no other plugin is available for that format, message about missing
plugin is the result when trying a stream rather than using VLC
I use VLC 0.9.4 which is not the latest but the newest available to me
in the Ubuntu Intrepid repo's. I tried this in both a i386 and an
AMD64 system with similar result.
Is it even possible? |

Sorry, I don't know. But I would be very interested in an answer too
"libvlcplugin.so" works fine with Iceweasel / Firefox here (Debian
Etch, Opera 9.64).
Ciao,
Christian (also astonished that there were no answers given)

I found that Opera actually is able to use the mozilla VLC plugin but
it somehow doesn't when some javascript is used to invoke the embedded
stream.
Example:
On the website http://www.uitzendinggemist.nl you can click on a
(Dutch) broadcasts to view. They open in a new tab and the source code
reveals javascript being used to do the embedding. I have tried about
EVERYTHING to get these streams to open up in VLC as they do when I
visit the site with FireFox... but they simpy NEVER do. Every time
when there is another plugin available, that one is used. When there
is no other plugin, the embed-div remains empty.
But when I open the stream directly, like for example this one:
http://wm-ondemand03.omroep.nl/ug-ondemand-wm3/wm3c1/ceres/ncrv/rest/2.../NCRV_1
.... then my Opera browser does play it in VLC
So I know now that it IS possible but I guess it is the javascript
that somehow tricks Opera in thinking it should do anything but use
the VLC plugin
Strange.

For me not even this "direct-URI" works in Opera (9.64). It works in FF
with the VLC plugin but Opera remains blank.

I think the different versions of VLC are not responsible for the
differences between our systems, because the VLC plugin works with
Iceweasel / Firefox here. Does anyone know the meaning of the number
"128" above? On my sytem there's a "0" in the opera6.ini:
video/x-ms-asf-plugin=,0
video/x-ms-asf=,0

I installed geck media player and nothing. The RealPaleyr works fine,

"Install the mplayer plugin should works". And many, many answer from

With the VLC plugin still no success, sadly. But other plugins like
Mplayer or Gecko work on my Ubuntu installs.

Did you follow (parts of) the guide on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683
? If followed closely, you should at least get video with one of the
alternative players. |
